Whenever a patron's card is swiped at a register, the register communicates via the Campus network to the BLACKBOARD Envision (Dining Services) application server. The Envision application processes the transaction through the Blackboard database on the Oracle server. The transaction is either accepted or rejected by the Envision application and the response is returned to the register display.
In the event that Campus network communications within the Dining Services system temporarily go off-line, the registers will store transactions for upload to the Envision server for processing when the register goes back on-line. The register is capable of storing a very large number of transactions for upload. Transaction uploads begin automatically as soon as network communications are restored.
