Another email client or device may be configured to check Live@EDU student email -
Using Outlook 2007 to set up your account as an Exchange account using Outlook Anywhere is the recommended choice. If you do not have Outlook 2007, IMAP is the next recommended choice. Outlook Anywhere, IMAP, and POP methods allow you to download and view email.

NOTE: Configuring another email client or device to check Live@EDU email is totally optional - Live@EDU mail may be accessed from any computer with an internet connection on the web at http://mail.huskies.bloomu.edu/ and using your Windows Live@EDU account on the web gives you additional collaboration, instant messaging, and social networking capabilities that are not available through any other email client..

Outlook Anywhere (Exchange account)
(Recommended by Office of Technology if you have Outlook 2007)

Very similar to Live@EDU on the web, Outlook 2007 can be configured to access your account. You will be able view/edit your email, calendar, tasks, and contacts.

IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol)
(Recommended by Office of Technology if you do not have Outlook 2007)

Very similar to Live@EDU on the web, another email client can be configured to view/send email messages. Email messages will remain on the Live@EDU web server but messages will be able to be viewed on another client. IMAP does support multiple mail folders. IMAP does not support calendar, tasks, or contacts. IMAP essentially gives you access directly to the email server. Any message you delete is deleted from the server.

POP (Post Office Protocol)
POP settings may be used to retrieve Live@EDU email messages from your main inbox only. The POP protocol does not see recognize any email folders other than your main inbox.

Caution! Default POP settings REMOVE email messages from the Live@EDU email server once when they are downloaded into your client so your only copy of the message will be on the computer you "POPed" the message down to. If you wish to leave the messages on the server so that you can also get them using another method (mobile phone or Live@EDU on the web), you MUST place a check in the box next to "leave a copy of the message on the server" when you set up your mail client. Follow instruction very carefully!
