Conversion Central - Everything you need to know
There are two sets of conversions happening at the same time:
1. UserID Conversion:
If your student account was originally created on or before October 31, 2008, your userID was converted to the new format on May 13, 2009. Your new userID consists of student initials (2 or 3 letters) followed by a 5-digit random number. You were sent your new account information via email 3 times in the month leading up to the conversion. You can also find your new userID by logging into STINF and clicking on the biographical button. Finally, you may also verify your student userID by visiting the student directory lookup page. Look yourself up in the database and you will find your user ID (the information in front of the @ sign) and your full email address. Please note that starting May 13, 2009 you are required to use your new userID because there was no grace period where both your old and new userIDs worked. Also be aware your regular campus network account (used for everything except the new Live@EDU Email System) password was not changed due to the userID conversion, so it remained set to the same password that you were using to access your old userID account prior to the conversion.
2. Email System and Email Address Conversion:
For all students, the student email system was changed from MyMail to Microsoft's Live@EDU on May 13, 2009. All students received a new email address, userID@huskies.bloomu.edu. It is important to understand that to log into your new account, you must use your full email address as the Windows Live ID. It is also important to realize that your Live@EDU account and your regular campus network account have separate passwords, though they may be set the same. The initial password for your Live@EDU account is your default password found by clicking on the biographical button on STINF. Beginning May 13, 2009, any new incoming email addressed to your old student email address is automatically being redirected to your new account for a period of 6 months following the conversion, so now is the time to make sure all of your contacts, acquintances, and the businesses and websites you have a relationship with have your new address because after this interim period, all email addressed to your old address will be sent back undeliverable to the sender and the messages will not be accessible by you. You will still be able to log in and access your old email (any email on the MyMail server at conversion time on May 13, 2009) on the MyMail server for a period of 3 months following conversion. There are several actions you can take to transfer your old MyMail messages to your new email account. Your MyMail contacts were emailed to you on May 12, 2009, and there is a process to import your MyMail contacts into the new system. With your new Live@EDU email account, you get a SkyDrive. This is a high capacity (25GB limit) web storage location that you can access anywhere with an Internet connection. Look for the Sky Drive link at the top of the page after you log into your email at http://mail.huskies.bloomu.edu. The P: Drive and SkyDrive co-exist. The P: Drive is local campus network storage (350MB limit) that you can easily use while on campus computers. The SkyDrive is accessible through the web only and the data is stored on Microsoft servers. Due to the high capacity of your SkyDrive, it is a great place to archive older files or store especially large files. Please visit our Live@EDU help page for additional details and help. Not sure what to expect the first time you log in to your new email account? Check out the Logging in to Live@EDU for the first time tutorial.
